Indian badminton champ, Kidambi Srikanth has managed to break into the top ten rankings after successively winning the Indonesia and Australian Open Super Series titles. He has scored 58,583 points altogether.
Srikanth recently notched up the Indonesian Open title in a straight game victory over Japanese Kazumasa Sakai. After this victory, his rankings had climbed 11 places. Other successful players, Ajay Jayaram and B Sai Praneeth occupy 15th and 16th position respectively.
It is the Australian Open Super Series triumph that heralded Srikanth into the top ten rankings. He had defeated Rio Olympics 2016 champion Chen Long 22-20, 21-16 in straight games to clinch the Super Series title.
With this win, Srikanth became the only Indian player to break into the top ten men’s singles rankings. In the women’s singles rankings, Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu and bronze medallist Saina Nehwal occupy 5th and 15th places respectively.
Srikanth was delighted at his back to back title wins. He expressed his happiness about winning the Australian Open and said that everything just went right for him in the finals. His opponent Chen had been playing very well throughout the championship and defeating him in the finals was very special for Srikanth.
