For most teenagers, the classroom is where dreams begin. For 14-year-old Mahima Rajput from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, that dream is already reaching for the Moon.
In an inspiring achievement, the Class 10 student has been selected for ShakthiSAT, an international space education programme that brings together 12,000 girls from 108 countries to learn, collaborate and contribute to real-world satellite missions. According to online reports, Mahima is among the young participants who will receive hands-on training in satellite technology before helping build satellites that are planned to be launched later this year.
Mahima's journey into the world of space exploration began with a simple opportunity shared by her school. Speaking to ANI, she said that her school principal informed the guidance teacher about the programme, after which she was registered for the selection process. Soon, she found herself immersed in an intensive learning experience unlike anything she had encountered before.
The programme introduced participants to 21 learning modules and 365 lessons, covering the fundamentals of science, satellites and space missions in a structured and easy-to-understand format. From understanding scientific concepts to learning how satellites are designed and built, Mahima gained both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into space technology.
The next phase of Mahima's journey promises to be even more exciting. Selected participants are scheduled to travel to Delhi on August 23, where they will work alongside fellow students from around the world in hands-on satellite-building activities.
According to information shared about the mission, one of the satellites built through the programme is planned to land on the Moon, while another is expected to orbit the lunar surface. The satellites are slated for launch in October, offering participants a rare opportunity to contribute to an ambitious international space initiative.
ShakthiSAT is far more than a science programme. Mission ShakthiSAT is a global space education initiative developed by Chennai-based aerospace organisation Space Kidz India. Designed to ignite young minds, the programme aims to empower 12,000 girls from 108 countries by providing hands-on training in satellite engineering, coding, spacecraft systems and space science.
Beyond classroom learning, ShakthiSAT offers participants the opportunity to collaborate on real-world satellite projects, encouraging innovation, teamwork and international cooperation. Through mentorship and practical experience, the initiative hopes to inspire the next generation of women in STEM while nurturing future scientists and space leaders who will help shape the future of space exploration.
Mahima Rajput's journey from attending school in Raipur to preparing for a mission connected to lunar exploration reflects the limitless possibilities available to young minds willing to dream big.
As she prepares to travel to Delhi and take part in building satellites alongside participants from across the globe, Mahima is not only carrying her own aspirations but also inspiring countless other students to look beyond the classroom and towards the stars.
