The Maharashtra tourism department is all set to develop ‘Shaurya’ (bravery) museum at ‘Kala Amb’ a war memorial at Panipat in Haryana. This is being done in the memory of the third battle fought between Maratha Army and Afghan invader Ahmed Shah Abdali.
The department has formed a group comprising managing directors of tourism corporations of both the states Maharashtra and Haryana.
The decision was taken at a meeting headed by Jaykumar Rawal, state tourism minister, Sameer Pal Srow, managing director, Haryana Tourism Corporation and senior officials of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
‘Kala Amb’ monument, which is now developed as a park, was built as a tribute to more than 75,000 Maratha soldiers who lost their lives in the war.
As per a report published in the Hindustan Times, Jaykumar Rawal, state tourism minister, “The Haryana government wants us to help them in developing ‘Kala Amb’. It will come up at a spot in Panipat battleground where a mango tree turned black due to bloodshed owing to the battle. The tree has died down now.”
“The state government would like to develop the place. We are planning to build ‘Shaurya museum’ there. I have asked Vijay Waghmare, managing director of MTDC, to visit the monument and prepare detailed a plan,” he added.
