As Arctic ice is continuously depleting due to the warmer climate, it is time to save ice for proper ecological balance, researchers say.
Researchers are trying to come out with a solution to restore ice back at the Arctic. For that, they study different cold satellites out in our solar system. Usually water underneath the icy layer releases heat upwards while freezing and liberates heat which has to make way through the ice to release in the air.
But global warming has led to problems as it melts the ice easily and slows down ice formation. Arctic ice is very much necessary for the sustenance of cool climate on the planet.
The alternate way scientists have come up for restoration of ice is pumping up the underneath freezing water onto the icy surface to speed up the ice formation process rather than leaving it to freeze underneath. The pumps required for this process could be driven by our conventional windmills.
Scientist envision to set up millions of pumps all over the Arctic. During winter, the ice formation will lead to about one metre thick ice over 1,00,000 square metres area. The estimated expenditure for covering 10 percent of Arctic is about $50 billion per year.
