At just 18 years old, Samaira Hullur has achieved a feat that many aspire to—becoming India’s youngest commercial pilot. A native of Vijayapura city in Karnataka, her remarkable success marks not only a personal victory but also a historic moment for her hometown, where she stands as the first girl to clear the demanding Commercial Pilot License (CPL) exam.

Samaira’s aviation journey took flight with a rigorous six-month training program at the Vinod Yadav Aviation Academy. Under the expert mentorship of academy founders Vinod Yadav and Captain Tapesh Kumar, she excelled in all her CPL exams on her first attempt.

Samaira mentioned that the training was rigorous but became manageable with consistent support. She attributed her success to the guidance and encouragement provided by Captain Tapesh Kumar and Vinod Yadav.

Training that Took Flight

To obtain her CPL, Samaira underwent six mandatory courses, which included hands-on flying experience with small aircraft. She accumulated over 200 hours of flight time, mastering night flying and operating multi-engine airplanes.

For the next phase of her training, Samaira moved to the prestigious Carver Aviation Academy in Baramati, Maharashtra. Over seven months, she refined her technical expertise and gained deeper insights into the limitless possibilities in aviation.

“Carver Aviation Academy not only honed my flying skills but also broadened my understanding of the aviation world,” she said, emphasizing the academy's role in preparing her for real-world challenges.

A Mentor’s Legacy

Samaira credits much of her inspiration to Captain Tapesh Kumar, who himself holds the record as India’s youngest captain at just 25 years old. Following in his footsteps, Samaira’s determination and focus enabled her to clear five of the six examinations conducted by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) even before turning 18.

Due to eligibility rules, she had to wait until her 18th birthday to appear for the sixth exam on radio transmission technology, which she cleared seamlessly.

Samaira’s father, a businessman, and her mother, a fashion designer and teacher, were both pleasantly surprised when her academy announced she was the youngest in the country to obtain a CPL.

Her father proudly shared, “The DGCA exams are known for their difficulty, but Samaira passed all of them on her first attempt. It’s an incredible achievement.”

Breaking Barriers for Women in Aviation

Samaira’s journey marks a groundbreaking moment not only for herself but also for her hometown of Vijayapura. In a field traditionally dominated by men, her success serves as an inspiration for aspiring female pilots across the country.

“I am proud to be the first girl from Vijayapura to clear these exams,” Samaira said. “Becoming the youngest commercial pilot in the country is a dream come true.”
