A few years ago, Payal Jangid was being pushed into child marriage to which she firmly resisted and stood her stand. She continues to fight for the other girls of her village who are forced into child marriages.
On Tuesday Payal’s efforts were recognized by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which presented her with the "Changemaker" award for her fight against child marriages.
Jangid literally started a campaign against child labor and child marriages. She along with her supporters would organize rallies, posters, paint walls, go house to house and speak to the families. They left no stone unturned to convince elders that they were depriving the girls of their right to a proper education by marrying them off early.
The Foundation posted a video on Twitter in which Jangid gives details of the challenges faced by girls in Hinsla village, about 100 km from Jaipur. She not only spreads awareness about the adverse effects of child marriage on girls but also persuades parents to continue the education of their girls.
Despite receiving threats from some sections of the society, Jangid persevered with her efforts to eradicate the practice of child marriages so that every girl gets a chance to progress in society.
