The Pullicat lagoon covers an area of 759 sq km located north of Chennai. It is rapidly decreasing due to urbanization. Therefore, Pullicat Day is celebrated every year to create awareness among people about the fragile lagoon (India's second largest brackish water lake) and its beautiful heritage monuments.
It will be celebrated on the World Wetlands Day on February 3. It is organized by the AARDE Foundation, an NGO that works for the preservation of the lagoon. Activities such as catamaran race, heritage walk, Kolam and drawing competitions will be held in Pulicat as part of the celebration.
