Milk is a necessity for many of us hence, several plastic pouches are bought on a regular basis. But what happens to these packets after the milk is squeezed out of it? They are dumped into the garbage bin and leads to environmental degradation because most of us don’t think of recycling them. However, the Maharashtra government is planning to come up with a solution regarding the same.
The environment ministry held meetings with suppliers and producers of milk and the latter abided with the idea of recycling the milk pouches. The buyers might have to pay an extra amount of 50 paise while purchasing the packets and they will get it back only if the plastic pouch is returned.
The initiative is a way of curbing down plastic pollution and while talking about the same, Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam said: “We have also given permission to milk producers to start the recycling plants in their premises. Once this happens, then we will not see any plastic on the road. We have to employ one by one move to enable a plastic-free society. Some firms have already started their recycling plants.” As reported by DNA.
This step towards diminishing plastic pollution can make people responsible for the environment. We are glad that the Maharashtra government mulled on this serious issue and came up with a great solution.
