Income tax Department of India has rolled out an online facility to rectify errors by Aadhaar and Permanent Account Number (PAN) cards if any. A hyperlink for the same has been added to their official website.
Currently on the official website you will find links for linking your Aadhaar card to your PAN card. Also the links for the newly launched PAN card details’ rectification and application of a new PAN card by an Indian or foreign citizen are present on the e-filling website.
The website has another link to rectify or update Aadhaar card details on the ‘Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal’. To link into the portal one requires unique identity number. The applicants need to upload scanned documents as a proof in order to accept the updating request.
Our country has about 111 crore Aadhaar card holders and 25 crore PAN card holders. But only 1.22 crore people have Aadhaar linked PAN and only 6 crore people file income tax returns. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, in the Finance Bill 2017-18, made it compulsory to have Aadhaar card for all the tax payers and launched the provision of Aadhaar linked PAN for reducing the illegal tax avoidance technique of using multiple PAN cards.
