Famous chef Vishnu Manohar sets a World Record by cooking for nonstop 53 hours. Once the documentation is done, Manohar’s name will be added in Guinness World Records for cooking for maximum hours.
This world record was achieved in Nagpur, his hometown, which started on April 21 at 8 am and ended on April 24 at 530 pm.
The longest cooking marathon was achieved by an individual for 40 hours. Vishnu Manohar was successful to break the record of Benjamin J Perry (USA).
The last recipe prepared by Manohar was Amba Pakoda and his goal was accomplished. After achieving the goal, he informed that he still has energy to cook for more ten hours.
Though he had completed 52 hours at 1.30pm and had marked the milestone with a chana dal halwa and traditional zunka offering as prasad, Vishnu continued for four more hours to cover for the breaks he had taken every 8 to 10 hours.
While talking to media, Manohar said that he dedicated this successful cooking marathon to the farmers in country. Farmers strive for the country to provide us with grain, vegetables, fruits and other things but many seem to ignore their efforts. Manohar also took an opportunity to talk about food wastage and to value food through this record breaking cooking program.
As per the report in the Times of India, a foolproof strategy was planned for this record. Manohar had designed a sequence of 20 recipes per hour, each weighing 100gms.
"We were placing the cooked dishes on a table kept across the stage for visitors to eat." When Vishnu saw there were many who wanted to taste these recipes, he doubled the quantity." We realized this was adding to cooking time and so coaxed him to stick to initial weight," said his brother Pravin. "He was feeling a bit low in the last two hours but he requested for some peppy music to be played that brought back the energy," he informed.
Among the friends and families present at the cooking marathon, well known hotelier Vitthal Kamath and Amruta, wife of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis were also present.
Manohar had prepared for this cooking marathon by going through the airport and railway canteen which are open overnight and he is also used to long hours working due to television shows.
