Imagine a place where children without families, senior citizens seeking companionship and persons with disabilities can live with dignity, surrounded by people who care for them. A new initiative by Reliance Foundation is working towards turning this vision into reality.
Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, has announced the establishment of Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray, a proposed 100-acre township near Karjat, close to Mumbai. Envisioned as a lifelong home for people who need care and support, the project seeks to build a community where everyone has a place to belong.
Nita Ambani performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the proposed site on Sunday, marking the beginning of an initiative centred on compassion and long-term care. Spread across approximately 100 acres, the township is designed to accommodate more than 5,000 residents, including orphaned children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
But the vision extends beyond the residents themselves. With caregivers, medical professionals, support staff and their families, the larger community is expected to comprise around 15,000 people.
Rather than conventional institutional accommodation, the township will feature small, family-style homes. Each home will have dedicated house parents and caregivers to provide residents with personal attention, emotional support and a sense of family.
One of the distinctive features of the proposed township will be its eight residential villages, each named after a sacred river of India. The concept reflects an emphasis on community living, where residents can build relationships, share experiences and find companionship.
For children who have grown up without parental care, senior citizens who need support in their later years and persons with disabilities who require lifelong assistance, the initiative aims to offer something more meaningful than just shelter: a permanent home and a supportive family environment.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Nita Ambani described the initiative as a deeply personal beginning for her family. She highlighted the concerns of parents of children with disabilities, particularly the uncertainty about who will care for their children when they are no longer around. Her hope, she explained, is that such parents can find peace knowing their children will always have a home and a family of their own.
With Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Ashray, the vision goes beyond building homes and creating infrastructure. It seeks to build a community where care is continuous, companionship is valued and no one has to face life alone.
