In a landmark step towards transforming India’s urban commute, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Mumbai One’ on October 8, 2025, a QR-based digital ticketing app designed to integrate 11 public transport services across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). It is India’s first common mobility app. Mumbai One aims to simplify travel for over a crore Mumbaikars who rely on multiple modes of transport every day. The app is a crucial step towards the national vision of “One Nation, One Mobility,” ensuring convenience, speed, and digital inclusivity for all.
Mumbai One is a single mobile app that makes travelling across Mumbai much easier. Through this app, people can book one digital ticket that works for metros, monorails, buses, and suburban trains. It also helps users plan their journeys using live traffic and route updates. Payments are made through simple QR scans, making travel completely cashless and contactless. The app also includes useful features like “Share My Location,” emergency support, and a built-in city guide for places to visit and eat. Available in Marathi, Hindi, and English, Mumbai One ensures that everyone in Mumbai can use it comfortably.
For decades, Mumbai’s transport network has been both its lifeline and its chaos. Millions of passengers juggle between local trains, metros, monorails, and buses, each with its own ticketing system, apps, and counters. Imagine a working professional who lives in Thane and works in Bandra. Every day, switches between a TMT bus, a suburban train, and the metro, and each transportation has different apps. Now with only one app, the tension is solved.
The Mumbai One app is designed to make travel simple, smart, and safe for everyone. It allows people to use one ticket across all major transport systems in Mumbai, including metro lines, suburban trains, monorail, and buses run by BEST, TMT, NMMT, KDMT, and MBMT. Commuters can make quick QR-based digital payments, so there’s no need to carry cash or paper tickets. The app also includes a city guide that highlights popular tourist spots, local food places, and cultural events. For safety, it offers emergency support and live tracking, while real-time updates help users know about routes, delays, and connections. There are no extra charges for using the app, as all costs are covered by MMRDA. Although season or return train tickets aren’t available yet, they are expected to be added soon.
Mumbai One brings ease and efficiency to Mumbai’s busy public transport system. With QR-based digital tickets, commuters can enjoy contactless travel, reducing long queues and the hassle of carrying cash. The app also makes it easy to plan complete journeys across different transport modes without switching between multiple apps or counters. It helps users find the fastest and most affordable routes, saving both time and money. Safety is another key feature; the “Share My Location” option provides extra security, especially for women and senior citizens. By promoting digital and paperless travel, the app also supports the environment. For millions of daily travelers, Mumbai One is more than just a travel app; it represents Mumbai’s spirit of innovation, resilience, and progress in the digital era.
Mumbai One is a technological milestone in India’s mobility infrastructure. It’s hosted on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and uses Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) to ensure top-tier performance, scalability, and security. Built in compliance with MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and IT) standards, the app guarantees data protection and high uptime, crucial for a city that never stops moving. This robust digital backbone makes Mumbai One not just a local innovation but a template for other Indian cities aspiring for integrated mobility.
With Mumbai One, India’s financial capital is leading the charge in digital public mobility. The app lays the foundation for future expansions, including integration with taxis, ferries, parking services, and suburban season passes. If successful, this model could soon be replicated across major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai , Udaipur, and Thiruvanthapuram, turning “One Nation, One Mobility” from vision to reality.
