A difficult situation might restrain you from leading the life that you want to but, the scenario can never be the same. And for that, you need to leave no stone unturned. Every storm has an end to it so does a tough phase. 28-year-old Alice Anthony from Pune knew how to mend everything when life was throwing numerous curve balls at her. And today she is a self-dependent woman who is reforming the lives of several children.
Alice lived with her family in a slum where they didn’t have access to a lot of basic facilities. She grew up using a public ‘bathroom which had no door. “There was just a cover so, I used to take a bath with my clothes on. I felt scared while using the bathroom.” Alice told My Indian Dream. She was bullied in school until ninth grade and a turning point in her life came when she started excelling in studies.
Alice’s father once told her that she has to utilize the power of education in order to live a much better life. She took that statement so seriously that today she holds a degree in engineering. Alice used to work with a renowned organization, she quit her job because she wanted to offer a lot to her society. And with that urge, she came up with SAANS along with Satyashil Shinde.
The basic idea behind SAANS is to make every child academically strong. Right from a kindergarten kid to a college student, they guide everyone. They not only teach their students but also help them crack job interviews.
The NGO has a community learning centre which is situated at Chudaman Talim, Bhawani Peth. They also teach the street kids at JJ Garden on MG Road and is associated with a government school called Jilha Parishad Prathamik Shala, Panmelewadi where they empower the children and make them inclined towards education.
Alice feels that continuing to work at a private firm might have made her financially stronger but, the feeling of educating the kids of her community is unparalleled and she desires to do a lot more for them.
