The Indian women’s hockey team is all geared up for the FIH Hockey World League Semi Final to be held in Johannesburg from July 8 to 23 and ahead of their departure, they were treated to a surprise session with five-time world champion and London Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom.
The key message in Mary Kom’s talk was to build mental strength and battle against all odds. She told her own story of how she overcame all hardships and opposition to make an illustrious career. She stressed the importance of mental preparation.
Indian women's hockey team chief coach Marije Sjoerd was very satisfied and said that it was an inspiring session. He said that the girls have done everything in their capacity to prepare themselves for the event.
He liked the way Mary interacted with the girls and motivated them with her life story. When he had taken charge, he felt that the girls lacked self belief, but now he was glad that the girls have become very confident with better results. They have also improved their physical fitness so that they could play harder.
The coach said that their aim is to qualify for the World Cup which will be held in London in 2018.
