Indian Railways takes another step towards public safety by pitching for the procurement of about 12 lakh CCTV cameras to ensure state-of-the-art surveillance systems in all trains and stations across the country.
The government is expected to set aside Rs 3000 crore for this procedure in the 2018 Budget. The cameras will be installed in all the 11,000 trains and 8500 stations.
As per the plan, while each coach will have eight CCTV cameras covering the entry gates, aisle, and vestibules. Currently 395 stations and 50 trains are equipped with CCTV systems.
