We all tend to make resolutions while ushering in the New Year. One may resolve to give up negative habits, to lose weight, to exercise regularly or meditate daily. These seemingly simple tasks become a chore after initial enthusiasm diminishes. Then slowly, one becomes lethargic and doesn’t even realize when he/she is once again back to square one!
But, you don’t have to get disheartened as the following tips would help you to adhere to your resolutions. You can have desired positive results from your resolutions.
Concentrate on one resolution at a time.
Instead of working on many resolution and changes at once, concentrate on only one resolution at a time. Your energies would be spent on only one thing and you can give the single resolution every bit of your attention. You can break down the resolution into the smaller steps. You could plan first step to be easy, which will give you confidence.
The resolutions and plan to implement it should be written down:
Write the resolution and the plan to implement it. You can promise yourself that you will adhere to the written word. This would make it look achievable.
Zero-In on achievable resolutions.
Avoid making same old resolutions that need drastic changes in your lifestyle. Stick to something you could expect would happen. Instead of making 5 or 10 resolution, just make 2 or 3 of them, on which you can work with little efforts. These too, you can tackle one after another and not all at one go. The resolutions which take long period, like learning something new, should be approached one step at a time. You need to remain motivated daily to master a particular segment of the learning topic or art.
The changes should not be drastic.
To achieve success of a resolution, don’t carry out the full implementation in the beginning itself. Leaving the habit of junk food can’t be done in one day. But, you can certainly do it gradually, over a period of time.
Garner help from family, friends and colleagues.
You could count on the support from your family members, friends and colleagues. They would certainly support you wherever you are at any given time, be it at home, at office or at hang-out place. This would go a long way in keeping you on correct track during transition to achieve a resolution.
Though above points may not make an exhaustive list, they would offer you a general direction which could help you to stick to your resolution till 31 December, 2017!
