Mahindra Racing is back in the spotlight. In one of the most dramatic races of the 2025–26 FIA Formula E World Championship, Nyck de Vries mastered treacherous wet-to-dry conditions to claim victory at the Tokyo E-Prix, handing the Indian manufacturer its second win of the season and its strongest Formula E campaign in years.

The Dutch driver held his nerve through changing track conditions, a daring strategy, and a nail-biting one-lap sprint after a late red flag to secure the sixth Formula E victory of his career.

The result also moved Mahindra Racing to within just one point of third place in the Teams' Championship, setting up an exciting finale in London next month.

A Strategy That Changed Everything

Starting fifth on the grid, de Vries faced an uphill challenge after teammate Edoardo Mortara claimed pole position—his fourth of the season, equalling the Formula E record for the most pole positions in a single campaign.

Before the race, Mahindra Racing made a bold strategic gamble by opting for a setup better suited to a drying track, despite rain soaking the Tokyo Street Circuit shortly before the start. Initially, the decision appeared risky as de Vries slipped down the order while rivals built an early advantage. But as the circuit gradually dried, Mahindra's calculations paid off.

Careful energy management, combined with skill, allowed de Vries to slice through the field and take the lead when it mattered most.

Drama Until the Final Lap

Just when victory seemed within reach, the race took another dramatic turn. A late multi-car collision involving teammate Edoardo Mortara brought out the red flag, ending Mortara's race and setting up a tense one-lap dash to the finish. Keeping his composure under immense pressure, de Vries successfully defended his lead from Nick Cassidy and Jake Dennis, crossing the finish line first to seal an unforgettable victory.

Following the race, de Vries acknowledged that the team's strategy had worked in their favour. He explained that despite a poor start, conserving energy during the early stages proved decisive and praised the entire Mahindra Racing team for executing a near-perfect race.

Mahindra Racing's Best Season in Years

The Tokyo triumph is about far more than a single race victory. It marks Mahindra Racing's first multiple-win Formula E season since 2017-18, signalling a remarkable resurgence for one of the championship's pioneering teams.

Mahindra Racing leaves Tokyo with 210 championship points, just one point behind third-placed Andretti with only two rounds remaining in the season.

With only the London E-Prix remaining on August 15 and 16, both the Drivers' and Teams' Championships remain wide open. De Vries' victory has lifted him to ninth in the drivers' standings, while Mortara continues to hold fifth place despite his unfortunate retirement in Tokyo.

For Indian motorsport fans, Tokyo was more than just another race, it was proof that Mahindra Racing is once again challenging the very best on the world stage.
