Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Srivastava, and Pratibha Ranta feature in the Aamir Khan-produced movie, which is directed by Kiran Rao. The jury members were presented to the media by Film Federation of India President Ravi Kottarakara. Jude Anthany Joseph's official entry from the previous year, "2018," was not selected for the 96th Academy Awards shortlist. But India did not disappoint at the 95th edition, as their documentary 'The Elephant Whisperers' by Kartiki Gonzalves and Guneet Monga won Best Documentary (Short) and 'Naatu Naatu' from SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' won Best Original Song.

Laapataa Ladies has enjoyed a remarkable journey, progressing from its theatrical release to being selected as India's official entry for the Oscars. In an exclusive interview with *India Today Digital*, writer Sneha Desai expressed her excitement over the film's achievement. Although she acknowledges that there are more challenges ahead to secure a final nomination, Sneha sees this moment as a victory. The cast and crew are ecstatic, cherishing the recognition while preparing for the arduous road ahead.
The film revolves around two brides who are mistakenly swapped at a railway station, leading to a series of comedic misadventures and life lessons. While *Laapataa Ladies* touches on themes of women's empowerment and emphasizes the importance of making thoughtful choices, Sneha is cautious about labeling it a "feminist film." Instead, the story is designed to entertain while subtly provoking thought about societal norms.
Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Ravi Kishan, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Chhaya Kadam play important parts in Laapataa Ladies. Sacnilk claims that throughout its 13-week theatrical run in India, the film grossed ₹20.58 crore.
At the 74th Academy Awards, "No Man's Land" defeated Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker's "Lagaan" (2001), the last Indian feature film to reach the final shortlist for Best Foreign Film. It's interesting to note that "Laapataa Ladies" was paired with the Bollywood hit "Animal" and the Malayalam movie “Aattam.” ~ a comical slap to the patriarchy maybe?
