Making lives as normal to disabled people as a normal person, Telangana has become the first state to have logos for drivers with hearing impairment.
The logo was designed by a graphic designer Manikanta Annapragada from Hyderabad who is also the first hearing impaired person to get a driving license. The logo was finalized out of eight logos designed and submitted by Manikanta himself. The final logo was decided by the state’s transport department.
This logo is kind of a safety measure for the hearing impaired drivers as this will acknowledge the other drivers and make them attentive so as to avoid accidents and be careful. Telangana has become the first state in India to make such a decision.
Talking about the logo, it has a mark that symbolizes hearing impairment with text on it as follows, “Driver is deaf. Please watch out.”Size of the logo is different for two and four wheeler vehicles. In two wheelers, for the rear side, the logo must be 4 inches high and 3 inches wide and for the front side, it must be 3 inches high and 2 inches wide. In four wheelers, for the rear side, the logo must be 6 inches high and 5 inches wide and for the front side, it must be 4 inches high and 3 inches wide.
As per the records with the transport ministry of the state about 10 hearing impaired people have applied for learner’s license. In November 2016, the Union Transport Ministry had granted permissions to provide licenses to hearing disabled people if they pass the tests successfully, provided the applicant has proper visual ability.
