For those who love to be in proximity to nature and animals, especially elephants, there is good news. The exclusive elephant care center in Karnataka has opened its door to the public.
The Rs. 1.5 crore center, which is situated in the Lakshmisagar reserve forest on 25 acres near the village of Kajikallahalli in Kolar, began operations in August of this year.
It has been established by the Forest Department in partnership with Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, a non-profit organization with Bengaluru roots, to care for injured, old, sick, and abandoned elephants.
Each elephant at the center is given a particular diet and exercise regimen as per the vets' recommendations. They are given two daily baths and are fed ragi, fruits, paddy, and fresh grass. To make their meals, a modern kitchen has been built up.
The Forest Department is trying to expand the facility so that it can hold additional animals while also allowing a portion of it to be opened to tourists so they may feed the animals and interact with them. At the moment, the premises have the ability to house eight elephants.
Sustainable and waste recycling units are being set up to make this place environmentally friendly and a wonderful place for visitors.
