Kaup a small city known for its trademark lighthouse is now becoming popular for one more reason- It is the second coastal city in Karnataka that hosts adventure sports like scuba diving and snorkeling.
The Udupi district administration, department of tourism and West Coast Adventures joined hands to bring adventure sports to Kaup which is the second city after Murudeshwar to offer adventure sports to tourists.
Pawan Shourie, CEO, and founder of West Coast Adventures which is certified by Professional Association of Diving Instructors said it is on the lookout for diving aficionados from the coastal city of Mangaluru and Manipal.
Pawan said the company zeroed in on the diving spot, some 8-kms off the coast after an extensive survey. Divers can reach the site after a 30-minute boat ride for one of the best underwater experiences. He said that there is also a plan by the tourism department to open a marine park in the site which would be an added attraction for the tourists.
Shivanand Kapshi, CEO, Udupi Zilla Panchayat said, “Udupi district has the potential to broad base the scope for tourism beyond Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, St Mary's Island and Malpe beach. The pristine shore of Kaup is alluring to an outsider and also its USP”.
