Karanj, the third Scorpene class submarine was launched on Wednesday by the Indian Navy. The submarine was launched by the Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba's wife Reena Lanba.
Karanj was constructed at the Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai. The submarine will go through rigorous tests for the next one year before it is put in action.
The submarine is provided with all means and communication to ensure proper communication with other components of a naval task. Having 67.5 metres of an overall length and a height of about 12.3 metres, Karanj has many weapons which are unmatched by most submarines.
This Scorpene class submarine will be a big step in the country's defence programmes, stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last month.
