Despite her education up to class 7, Raimati has emerged as a champion in promoting and conserving rare millet varieties. Her extraordinary journey has earned her the title of “Queen of Millets”.
Raimati's Mission: Resurrecting Nutritious Millets
Driven by concerns about the shift from nutritious millets to commonly consumed rice and wheat, Raimati, alongside other tribal farmers, is on a mission to revive interest in these indigenous grains.
Preserving Diversity: 72 Paddy & 30 Millet Varieties
Raimati's accomplishments extend beyond cultivation – she has safeguarded 72 traditional paddy varieties and 30 rare millet types. Notably, one of her millet varieties is slated for official release by the Odisha government. Her expertise stems from hands-on experience rather than formal education.
Empowering Through Knowledge: A Story of Inspiration
Inspired by Padma Shri awardee Kamala Pujari, Raimati persevered in her pursuit, managing household chores while passionately conserving indigenous seeds. With guidance from Kamala Pujari and collaboration with the MSSRF, Raimati significantly improved millet farming methods, benefiting her community and beyond.
Community Impact & Recognition
Raimati’s influence spans training 2,500 farmers in millet cultivation. As the ‘Millet Queen’ of Odisha, she stresses millets' vitality in daily meals. At the G20, she showcased millet-based delicacies and leads a group producing value-added millet products sold locally.
Educating & Honors
Establishing a farm school in her village, Raimati imparts scientific farming techniques. Her exceptional efforts earned her state-level recognition as the ‘Millet Queen,’ receiving awards for her contributions.
