Jaipur is all set to get a music museum as the Department of Archaeology & Museums has floated a tender inviting private participation to open and operate the museum. The museum which will be inaugurated in a month will be situated in the Sisodia Rani Bagh palace.
Sources reveal that the addition of the museum will add a special charm to the palace which is known for its beautiful architecture. It is one of its kind museum in Jaipur and will display around 50 musical instruments and sculptures.
The museum will be a representation of the musical culture of Rajasthan which includes instruments like sarangi, ektara, khartal etc. that are used in Rajasthani folk songs. In the coming tourist season, this museum will be an additional attraction, especially for music lovers as it showcases the rich heritage of the state.
The Sisodia Rani Bagh and Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1728 and consists of tiered multi-level gardens with fountains, watercourses and painted pavilions. The top terrace of the garden is occupied by a double storeyed palace. Tha palace which is located on the Jaipur- Agra highway also has many galleries, pavilions and beautiful murals depicting scenes from the life of Lord Krishna.
