Zero, the decimal system, the game of chess and snakes and ladders, cataract operation, plastic surgery, Fibonacci series; the list of Indian inventions is endless. Not only were Indians ahead in science and mathematics, they were leading even in astronomy, technology, arts and many more. History is testimony! This article highlights India’s contributions to technology right back in time which are unforgettable!
Pentium Chip: Vinod Dham
Indian engineer and entrepreneur, Vinod Dham has been attributed as ‘the Father of the Pentium Chip’ for his successful development of the famous Pentium processor of Intel Co. He was the leader of the team in Intel Co. who gave the world the famous Pentium microprocessor. Now he is a mentor, advisor and venture capitalist who is a board member of many big companies and encourages startups! He now a representation of technical talents from South Asia in the Silicon Valley.
USB (Universal Serial Bus): Ajay V. Bhatt
Indian-American computer architect Ajay V. Bhatt is the one who helped defining and developing the popular product USB! He is the co-inventor of USB and rose to fame with Intel’s 2009 Television advertisement. It is a proud feeling that the great mind behind the invention of the most commonly used product even today is an Indian!
Wireless communication: J. C. Bose
Indian biophysicist and botanist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose gave his first public demonstration of radio wireless communication in 1895 which was two years prior to Marconi’s similar presentation. Though JC Bose was credited for his achievement a century later, he gave the world the first demonstration of the wireless communication and laid the foundation of modern communication. Thanks to JC Bose for our fast high tech communication age!
Discovery of water on moon: ISRO
The Chandrayaan-1 mission of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) led to the discovery of water on moon. It was from ISRO’s findings that claimed that moon isn’t a dry satellite but has water on it! This is a very important findings to study the possibility of existence of life on moon, thanks to ISRO!
Prefabrication: Mughals
Prefabrication is a process of assembling components of a structure, especially of a factory and manufacturing site, onto a construction site where it is to be located. The entire building can be dismantled and its components can be transported to a new site where it is to be located. This technique was first ever used by Indians during the Mughal era in Akbar’s reign! The 16th century Mughal India had the first ever prefabricated and movable structures made!
