There is good news as industries of the world are making efforts to adopt the low carbon path to fight climate change. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar said that affordable technology poses a problem to achieve this end.
India and Sweden co-lead the Industry Transition Track to make certain that industries switch over to low carbon emission manufacturing. The track is one of nine specialized groups to promote the fight against climate change and achieve the goals of the Paris climate accord.
Speaking about the track’s “Leadership Group”, PM Modi said at the climate summit that it will provide opportunities for more countries to cooperate in the area of technology innovation and develop low carbon pathways for the industry.
Javadekar cited some examples of industries in India adopting low-carbon technologies. He gave the example of the Dalmia Industry which is the world’s lowest carbon-emitting cement industry and they are even working on a plan of carbon capture and use. Kochi airport is the only airport in the world that totally runs on solar power. He also informed that SpiceJet airline uses bio-fuels for its Bombardier planes and they are also planning to use the fuel for its Boeing aircraft.
With more and more industries trying to reduce their carbon footprint, we can hope that the adverse effects of climate change get mitigated.
