India led International Solar Alliance (ISA) which is all set to become a legal entity in December has planned to generate 1,000 gigawatt (GW) of solar power across the globe by 2030. Nearly 1,000 euros will be invested to achieve this goal.
The ISA’s future plans were revealed at the UN climate change conference (COP23) in Bonn. Earlier there were plans to hold the alliance's first global summit in Delhi next month, but it has been delayed due to the postponement of French President Emmanuel Macron’s India visit.
The International Solar Alliance was jointly launched by PM Modi and the then French President Francois Hollande in Paris on November 30, 2015. India is keen to have Mr.Macron on board at ISAs inaugural summit as France has always shown a keen interest in the Indian initiative and has been quite active to forge a global coalition to harness solar energy.
ISA aims to bring 121 solar rich countries on a single platform to explore ways to utilise and promote solar energy. Secretary in the ministry of new and renewable energy, Anand Kumar said member countries had been proactively working on their solar goals and achieving the target of 1,000GW by 2030 would be a collective goal.
