Get ready, Mumbai! A spectacular new experience is about to unfold in the city’s green oasis. Say hello to the Malabar Hill Walkway—Mumbai’s first-ever elevated nature trail! Winding through the lush canopy of Kamala Nehru Park, this stunning wooden pathway is a dream come true for nature lovers, morning walkers, and anyone craving a breath of fresh air. Imagine strolling through a lush green paradise, with birds chirping overhead and a refreshing sea breeze guiding your way. This eco-friendly retreat offers the perfect antidote to the city’s non-stop buzz, giving Mumbaikars a chance to reconnect with nature like never before!
The Malabar Hill walkway is situated in the Malabar Hill forest, extending from Kamal Nehru Park to the rock formations near the Doongerwadi woods.
Unlike conventional parks, the Malabar Hill Walkway enhances the city’s green cover by preserving the existing flora and fauna. The trail offers a unique opportunity to observe native bird species and butterflies in their natural habitat, making it an attractive spot for nature lovers and photographers alike.
Built at a cost of ₹26 crore, the project was carefully executed to ensure minimal disruption to the existing park. Most of the construction work was carried out manually, with hydraulic cranes used sparingly to protect the delicate ecosystem. The result is a seamlessly integrated green space that enhances the experience of Kamala Nehru Park.
To maintain the tranquility of the walkway, only 400 visitors will be allowed at a time. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed an entry fee of ₹25 for Indian visitors and ₹100 for foreign tourists. Tickets will be available online to prevent overcrowding, ensuring a peaceful and immersive experience for all.
After four years of meticulous development, the Malabar Hill Walkway is scheduled to open in early April, pending final approvals. The last phases of work, including painting, cleaning, and installation of emergency exits, are being completed. A final fire safety inspection is set for April 2, with the inauguration tentatively planned for April 4.
Whether you are a photographer capturing the beauty of native flora and fauna, a nature enthusiast seeking solace, or simply someone looking for a break from urban chaos, the Malabar Hill Walkway offers a perfect escape. With easy access from Siri Road behind Kamala Nehru Park, this elevated trail is set to become Mumbai’s newest green landmark.
