Indian combat sports have a new reason to celebrate! Arunachal Pradesh's Sonam Zomba has etched her name into the record books by becoming the first-ever Karma Fight League (KFL) World Strawweight Champion, defeating Sri Lanka's Chathuri Siriwardana by unanimous decision in Colombo.

Competing in the main event at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre (SLECC) on July 18, the Tawang-born fighter showcased remarkable composure, precision and determination to emerge victorious in the K-1 kickboxing championship bout.

The victory marks another defining chapter in Zomba's already impressive career and further establishes her as one of India's most accomplished combat sports athletes.

A Champion Who Keeps Raising the Bar

Zomba's latest success comes just months after she successfully defended her Matrix Fight Night (MFN) Strawweight World Title, proving that her dominance extends across multiple combat disciplines.

Representing Bidang MMA, the Arunachal athlete has built an outstanding professional record of around 8 wins and just one defeat in mixed martial arts. Her latest triumph in K-1 kickboxing demonstrates her versatility and ability to excel beyond the MMA cage.

Initially, tournament announcements had listed Pakistan's Bushra Akhtar as her opponent, but Zomba ultimately faced Sri Lanka's Chathuri Siriwardana and delivered a commanding performance to claim the historic title.

Zomba's achievement sparked celebrations back home, with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu showering praise on the champion.
