For the first time ever, an all-woman six-membered team will carry out a voyage across the world. They will be sailing in INSV Tarini.
The voyage will start in the first week of September this year and will end with their return in March 2018. They will be circumnavigating the globe. Their voyage will have four stopovers namely Fremantle in Australia, Lyttelton in New Zealand, Port Stanley in Falklands and Cape Town in South Africa. The team has Lieutenant Commanders Vartika Joshi, Pratibha Jamwal and P. Swathi and Lieutenants S.Vijaya Devi, B.Aishwarya, and Payal Gupta. The voyage is being done in INSV Tarini which is indigenously made. It is a 55-foot sailing vessel and was inducted last year in Navy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself met the team on Wednesday. He asked them to show the power and capability of Indians all over the world and make an account of all their experiences by writing and also sharing them after their successful completion of the voyage.
For preparation, the team had already sailed from Goa to Mauritius from May to July 2017.
