While India celebrated its 80th Independence Day at home, an Andhra Pradesh police officer took the celebrations to an extraordinary height.

Sub-Inspector V Venkateswara Rao, attached to Eluru Rural Police Station, scaled Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, standing at 5,642 metres in Russia. At the summit, he unfurled a spectacular Indian Tricolour nearly 100 metres long, transforming the snow-covered peak into a striking tribute to the nation.

Rao reached the summit at around 8 am IST on Saturday. At that breathtaking altitude, he also sang the National Anthem, giving his Independence Day tribute an unforgettable setting.

A Climb With a Deeper Meaning

For Rao, reaching the summit was about far more than conquering a mountain. The police officer dedicated the achievement to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, turning his expedition into a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the country.

The sight of the Tricolour stretching across the high-altitude landscape carried a message of courage, service and national pride.

Discipline Behind the Summit

Rao is no stranger to mountains. An avid mountaineer, he has already scaled several peaks and undergone demanding physical and mental preparation for high-altitude expeditions.
