Union minister for human resource development Prakash Javadekar has said that the Central government has decided to set up a Central University which will cater to the needs of the disabled students across the country. He made this announcement during his convocation address at Shakuntala Mishra Rehabilitation University, Lucknow on Monday.

Stating that the Government is sensitive to the needs of the disabled, he said that the PM has coined the term 'divyang' and has asked all education institutions to take steps for barrier free movements for the disabled which means ramps and lifts will be a must in institutions. 

He added that this new education which is inclusive in nature will not only boost the confidence of the disabled and encourage them to learn more, but also will make the already empowered students more sensitive.

The HRD minister also offered financial assistance to the university for setting a Braille Press inside the campus. It was the desire of the university vice chancellor Nishith Rai to set up a Braille Press for helping visually impaired students.

Javedkar also awarded 53 medals to 37 students at the third convocation of which 28 went to girls and nine medals were given to the boys. He also expressed his happiness at the Indianess of the convocation attire.
