Under the Prime Minister’s proposed scholarship scheme, top 1000 innovative minds will get a monthly scholarship of Rs. 75000 as announced by Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar.
Mr. Javadekar added that the government is working on setting up a Rs. 2000 crore worth research infrastructure in the country. He also said that the government is working over lessening the interference or influence of University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) over universities. This is to provide a free and autonomous atmosphere for the universities to develop their curriculum, education and research.
The HRD Minister was speaking at the fourth convocation of Sri Sri University whose founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar motivated students to take up challenges in life and face it with full courage and determination. Sri Sri Ravi Prasad mentioned that his primary objective behind setting up the university was to bring the best of both the East and the West to the land of Lord Jagannath.
At the convocation, over 169 graduates and post graduates got their degrees from the dignitaries.
