Indian badminton’s golden pair has done it again.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty delivered a breathtaking performance at the Singapore Open 2026, clinching the prestigious BWF World Tour Super 750 men’s doubles title after a dramatic comeback victory over Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Fikri in the final on Sunday.
The fourth-seeded Indian duo overcame a shaky start to defeat the third-seeded Indonesians 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 in an intense summit clash that lasted one hour and 13 minutes. But this triumph was about much more than just another title.
Days after stunning world No. 1 Korean pair Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in the semi-finals, ending their incredible 34-match unbeaten streak, Satwik and Chirag etched their names into history as the first Indian doubles pair ever to win the Singapore Open title.
The final began at a blistering pace, with Satwik and Chirag racing to a 5-2 lead. However, the experienced Indonesian combination fought back smartly, matching the Indians point for point before taking control late in the opening game. Despite losing the first set 18-21, the Indian pair showed remarkable composure and aggression in the second game.
With the score tied at 8-8, Satwik and Chirag unleashed their attacking brilliance, winning six consecutive points to seize momentum. Their smashes became sharper, their net play tighter, and suddenly the Indonesians were on the back foot. Although Alfian and Fikri saved two game points, the Indians held firm to force a decider. And once they sensed an opening, there was no stopping them.
Riding the wave of momentum, Satwik and Chirag stormed to an 11-5 lead in the third game. The Indonesians attempted a comeback and narrowed the gap to 11-12, but the Indian pair once again shifted gears at the perfect moment. Their relentless attack, powerful smashes, and lightning-fast court coverage proved too much to handle. Soon, five championship points appeared on the scoreboard.
The Indians converted the second opportunity before bursting into their trademark celebrations, a moment of pure joy after nearly two years without a title on the BWF World Tour.
The victory marks the third Super 750 title for the Indian pair, adding to their French Open triumphs in 2022 and 2024. They had also famously captured the Indonesia Super 1000 title in 2023. Interestingly, this was also their first BWF World Tour title since the Thailand Open in 2024. Their confidence, chemistry, and hunger were evident throughout the tournament.
Perhaps the biggest statement came in the semi-finals, where they handed reigning world champions Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae their first defeat in 35 matches, a victory that sent shockwaves across the badminton world.
With confidence soaring and momentum firmly on their side, the Indian stars will now shift focus to the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament scheduled from June 2 to 7. And if Singapore was any indication, Satwik and Chirag are once again ready to rule world badminton.
