A new chapter in Indian travel is set to unfold high above the Himalayan foothills. The Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway, soon to be India’s longest passenger ropeway, will span 5.2 kilometers and ascend 1,000 meters, transforming the way travelers experience the route between the valley and the Queen of Hills.
Designed as a mono-cable detachable gondola system, this sky car will whisk passengers across the scenic mountain stretch in just 20 minutes. Slated for completion by September 2026, the ropeway promises a blend of environmental consciousness and unparalleled aerial views, inviting wanderers and nature lovers alike to embrace a breathtaking way to reach Mussoorie.
The Powerhouse Behind the Ropeway: A Global Collaboration
The project is being developed by Mussoorie Sky Car Private Limited, a consortium uniting the strengths of three infrastructure giants: FIL Industries Private Limited, POMA SAS, and SRM Engineering LLP.
FIL Industries, India’s largest CEN-certified ropeway operator, is celebrated for its Skyview by Empyrean project in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s highest ropeway by ground clearance.
French ropeway giant POMA SAS brings its globally acclaimed alpine technology, with the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway marking its first concession investment in India.
SRM Engineering LLP, backed by Rahman Group and Hindustan DockYard Pvt. Ltd., contributes its experience in infrastructure development across India, France, South Africa, and the UAE. Together, this trio combines innovation and engineering excellence.
Sustainability Meets Experience: A Leap Toward Green Tourism
The project aims to significantly reduce vehicular congestion on the winding roads to Mussoorie, cutting carbon emissions and limiting environmental damage. Designed with sustainability in mind, the system will use energy-efficient gondolas, minimal land disruption methods, and promote local tourism through improved accessibility.
For travelers, this means not just reaching Mussoorie more comfortably, but doing so while floating peacefully above pine forests, valleys, and streams, an immersive travel experience in harmony with nature. From backpackers to honeymooners, the ropeway is set to be a must-try attraction.
Scaling Pilgrimage Paths: The Yamunotri Ropeway Project
The Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway is just the beginning. The consortium has also secured the prestigious Yamunotri Ropeway Project, which will span 3.8 kilometers between Yamunotri and Kharsali. This sacred route, often challenging for elderly pilgrims and monsoon travelers, will now become more accessible and safer.
With these efforts, Mussoorie Sky Car Pvt. Ltd. aims to bring world-class infrastructure to India’s mountainous regions while preserving their cultural and spiritual essence. These ropeways aren't just connecting places, they're connecting people and pristine landscapes with the promise of progress and sustainability.
