Rupa Yadav, a simple village girl from Jaipur, Rajasthan was just eight years old when she was married off to a boy of 12 years. What sets her apart is her determination and will to continue her studies and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. Breaking all stereotypes, she faced many challenges, yet she managed to score excellent marks in NEET and is all set to become a doctor.
Rupa was only in third class when she got married, but her early marriage didn’t stop her from dreaming big. Being born into a farmer family, she toiled in the farm as well as in the kitchen, but never gave up on her studies. Her in-laws were proud of the 85 percent marks that she scored in the matriculation exam and hence when she put forth her desire to study further, they acceded to her wish.
Her high school was six km away from home and it became increasingly difficult for her to attend to all household chores as well as travel to school. Yet she persevered and was able to score good marks in her intermediate exams as well which was no mean feat. She expressed her desire to become a doctor to her husband who was very supportive. He, along with the help of his brother got her enrolled in a reputed coaching institute in Kota. Rupa’s husband and her brother in law started driving a tempo for additional income to finance her studies.
When it became very difficult to pay the high fees at the institute, Rupa even thought of discontinuing her class. However, impressed by Rupa’s sincerity and dedication, the coaching class waivered 75 percent of her fees. Rupa went on to appear for NEET 2017 and scored 603 marks and secured 2283 All India Rank.
Rupa’s goal is to become a cardiologist. In the future, she plans to open her own hospital and serve people who are deprived of medical facilities. Last year, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Smt. Vasundhara Raje praised Rupa for her efforts in breaking all stereotypes and fighting all the challenges that came her way to succeed in life.
