Left with no name, no family, and no future in sight, her tiny cries echoed through the walls of Srivastava Orphanage. She was given a name Laila, a fragile flame flickering against the winds of fate. 

But destiny had a twist waiting just around the corner. Thousands of miles away, an Australian couple Haren and Sue Sthalekar set foot in India, hoping to adopt a baby boy. Yet, in an unexpected moment of magic, Sue’s gaze fell upon a pair of bright brown eyes, yes it was Laila’s. It wasn’t just a glance, it was love at first sight, a connection, so raw and unexplainable. Love spoke louder than plans, and with a heartwarming change of course, Laila was adopted and given a new name, Lisa. From an orphan with an uncertain tomorrow, she became the daughter of two loving souls, embarking on a journey no one could have ever imagined.

From Backyard Games to World Stages Lisa’s new life took her across continents, from the US to Kenya before her family finally settled in Sydney. It was here, in the unassuming corners of her backyard, that the seeds of cricket were sown. Her father, Haren, introduced her to the sport with simple bat-and-ball games. What started as a playful hobby quickly ignited into an unrelenting passion.

She wasn’t just another kid in the park, she was fierce, focused, and determined, often playing alongside local boys, mastering every swing and spin. The spark of cricket in her backyard soon set fire to stadiums worldwide. Lisa debuted for New South Wales in 1997, and by 2001, she was playing for Australia, proving that talent knows no gender and resilience knows no limits.

Her bat spoke louder than words, and her bowling silenced doubters. She became the first woman to score 1,000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODI history. But Lisa didn’t stop there winning four World Cups, leading the Australian women's cricket team, and even becoming the world’s top-ranked all-rounder when the ICC ranking system was introduced.
