According to a recent study published in the journal "Diabetologia," engaging in physical activities such as dancing or brisk walks can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, even for those with a family history of the disease.
The researchers analyzed data from over 20,000 participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study, following them for an average of 11 years. They found that individuals who engaged in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity for at least 150 minutes per week had a 26% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those who did not engage in any physical activity.
Interestingly, the study also found that individuals who engaged in specific types of physical activity, such as dancing or brisk walking, had an even greater reduction in their risk of developing diabetes, up to 74%, regardless of their family history of the disease.
These findings highlight the importance of regular physical activity in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. It also suggests that individuals can choose a physical activity that they enjoy, such as dancing or brisk walking, to achieve the greatest benefits for their health.
