The tram system in Kolkata is one of its heritage which has been a part of it since 1902. Many tourists make it a point to get on the trams while touring around the city because it is the only place in India where the rail vehicle exists. However, with an increase in convenient transports in the city, most daily commuters prefer travelling by such vehicles. But, the 19th-century tram has been now revamped and is being well-received by people travelling between Shyambazar and Esplanade route.
A recent report by TOI stated that the all-new tram is equipped with air-conditioner and consist of just one coach. It tours six rounds in a day and travels at an average speed of 35 km/hr. It has also been said that a coach which was manufactured in 1982 has been used to renovate the new one.
The length of the revamped coach is 36ft and it took RS 25 lakh to for the makeover. AC trams have been seen in the city earlier as well but, this time it is touring for regular commuters.
The daily transport system in Kolkata is quite good and with such upgrades, it gets better with time and also makes it convenient for people to travel.
