Housing societies in Pune will soon get property tax concessions if they adopt environment-friendly measures like garbage segregation, rainwater harvesting, water recycling, tree plantation and installation of solar panels.
As part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, civic chief Shravan Hardikar has approved the ideal housing society scheme, wherein if a society clears 100% water tax and at least 90% property tax, it will be eligible for the contest. The contest will award 16 ideal housing societies that have implemented environment-friendly measures in an efficient and productive manner.
A team of two officers from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC, an NGO representative and a journalist will note details of the ideal housing societies in each of the eight zones of the city.
Hardikar said that the contest will include two categories. The first category will include housing societies having 1-100 apartments, bungalows and row houses, while the second category will comprise of societies having more than 100 flats. The contest will continue until October 2, 2019.
In 2018, as part of the cleanliness survey under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, the focus will be on garbage management (collection, transportation, processing and disposal), action against open defecation, education and information, behavioural change, capacity building and innovative projects.
