North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to set up charging points at selected parking lots for the e-rickshaws.

Six parking lots have been finalized until now namely North MCD parking lots near Badli Metro station, Railway Reservation Office near Kela godown, village Singhalpur (Haryana irrigation canal), Keshavpuram and Sector 11, Rohini. The electric rickshaws can be charged at night with nominal fares. Praveen Gupta, commissioner at North MCD said that since most of the parking lots remain vacant at night, they have decided to install charging points at the parking lots so that the e-rickshaw owners can charge their vehicle by paying a minimal amount for it. The contractor assigned the above task will be responsible for maintaining the parking lots at night.

Also, the parking lots are chosen in such a way that they are away from the main stretches of the city and close to internal roads. The reason for it is to avoid traffic jams on main roads. In future, parking lots near Metro stations will also have the facility to charge e-rickshaws. Also as e-rickshaw drivers get most of their customers near Metro stations, a charging facility here will be convenient. Planning for the same is in progress.
