The School Education Department of Tamil Nadu (SEDTN) is revolutionizing the learning experience for students in the state with its innovative magazine, 'Thenchittu.' Aimed at nurturing creativity and fostering reading habits, 'Thenchittu' is making a significant impact on young voices across Tamil Nadu.
Launched by Chief Minister MK Stalin in October 2022, 'Thenchittu' is part of SEDTN's initiative to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents. The magazine is specifically designed for students in classes 6 to 9, encouraging them to explore their thoughts beyond academics. With each issue containing 24 pages, 'Thenchittu' has become a valuable resource for students to learn and grow.
What initially started as a collection of short stories has evolved into a space where students actively contribute their own creative works since March 2023. The magazine has become a platform for students to exhibit their artwork, showcase their talents, and engage with interesting stories that broaden their understanding of various subjects.
SEDTN ensures that each section of schools within the state receives a printed copy of 'Thenchittu' through the Education Management Information Systems (EMIS). Students eagerly participate by submitting their creations to the editorial team, with the support of their teachers. Rejecting none of the submissions, the magazine boosts students' morale by acknowledging their contributions.
The success of 'Thenchittu' has also captured the attention of private institutions, leading to an extension of the subscription system. Starting from October 2023, private schools can now subscribe to the magazine for Rs 200 per year, further expanding its reach and impact.
SEDTN's commitment to empowering young voices through 'Thenchittu' demonstrates the transformative power of creativity and reading in education. By providing students with a platform to express themselves, the magazine is nurturing a generation of individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to society.
