CSM Tech, a leading IT company, has joined forces with the Raftar team from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) to create the world's fastest autonomously driven electric race car by 2025. The collaboration aims to leverage shared expertise and resources, accelerate research and development, mitigate risks, and promote standardization and knowledge exchange.
Raftar, a passionate motorsports team comprising over 40 students from various disciplines at IIT-M, takes on the challenge of constructing a high-speed Formula Student race car annually. Through the partnership with CSM Tech, the team anticipates becoming a game-changer in passenger and heavy vehicles, telemetry, vehicle tracking, and more.
Priyadarshi Pany, the founder and CEO of CSM Tech, expressed excitement about collaborating with IIT-M and highlighted the extraordinary potential of the institution's students and faculty. Pany believes that the team's expertise in indigenously built electronics, embedded technologies, and cross-domain knowledge will lead to the next big innovation in the automobile industry, originating from India.
Since its inception in 2012 as a student club dedicated to building a combustion-driven sportscar, the Raftar team has achieved remarkable success, winning the Formula Bharat event, the country's premier motorsports competition for educational institutions, thrice. They have also made their mark in events like Formula Germany and established their prowess in the university-level combustion and electric vehicle categories.
Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean of Industry Contribution and Sponsored Research at IIT-M, emphasized the crucial role of industry partners in empowering engineering ecosystems. He applauded the Raftar team for their determination, temperament, and exceptional execution of complex projects.
