The sight of colourful and vibrant flowers are known to uplift moods and brighten up the place. Therefore, flowers are widely used for decorative purposes and there is a big business thriving on horticulture.
While we know that flowers are cultivated to make fragrant oils that soothes one’s senses, we can know more about how flowers can be used to heal and cure ailments as a new book on flowers - Phoolproof: Indian Flowers, Their Myths, Traditions and Usage will hit the stands soon.
The book on flowers is written by Jhelum Biswas Bose who took a sabbatical owing to breathing troubles and found solace in flowers.
Connection With Flowers
When Bose encountered many problems due to her chronic breathing troubles, she found solace in flowers. Her connection with flowers was so strong that it led to a deeper understanding of herself and the world around her. Flowers are an intrinsic part of our lives, but we fail to admire its beauty and importance in the hustle-bustle of daily life. Bose decided to bring out the significance of flowers by way of a book which sheds light on the "subtle" power and meaning of different Indian flowers and teaches us how to gainfully use them in living spaces, foods, and beauty and healing treatments.
Book On Flowers
Bose said that the main aim of writing the book was to share with others how flowers can heal and make our lives healthier and happier. She writes about her own experience of Bach flowers that helped her to strengthen her emotions and floral essential oils motivated her to make fragrances.
The book not only introduces us to various flowers but also teaches us to make fragrances and cook with different flowers. It also throws light on the essential flower oils that help one to balance chakras and meditate.
Gurveen Chaddha who is the commissioning editor said the book elucidates the symbolism, myths and folklore relating to various Indian flowers. The book's foreword is written by actor Lisa Ray.
It is said that the earth smiles through flowers and it seems like this book will bring a smile on its reader’s face.
