Bare Necessities & the Art of Living Without Waste!
As the world observes World Plastic Free Day, the spotlight turns toward brands that are reshaping the future of consumption. Among them stands Bare Necessities, a homegrown Indian enterprise on a mission to eliminate plastic and promote conscious living. Founded by Sahar Mansoor, the brand’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that sustainability isn’t a trend but a way of life.
With a product range that spans personal care, home care, and wellness essentials, Bare Necessities offers practical, beautifully designed solutions to those looking to live gently on the Earth. On a day dedicated to rethinking plastic, their work stands as a reminder that true change begins at home, with the choices we make every day.
The Spark That Lit a Zero-Waste Movement!
Sahar Mansoor’s journey started from a deep personal conviction and a desire to live without harming the environment. Having studied environmental policy and worked with leading organizations in the sustainability sector, she found herself constantly bothered by the mountains of waste generated even by basic daily routines.
Her turning point came during her time at a solar energy NGO in South India, where she witnessed firsthand the conditions faced by waste workers. Rather than remain a passive observer, Sahar began crafting alternatives at home, starting with soaps and creams while minimizing her own waste. Her small steps soon transformed into a community-driven brand that encouraged others to reduce plastic dependency.
Crafting with Care: Where Products Meet Purpose!
What sets Bare Necessities apart is that every product, whether it’s a coconut oil-based deodorant or a bamboo toothbrush is thoughtfully made to be entirely plastic-free. With over 375,000+ tons of waste diverted from landfills, 2,50,000+ plastic items eliminated, and 50,000+ customers impacted, the brand is redefining conscious consumption in India.
All ingredients are natural, locally sourced, and cruelty-free, while the packaging remains compostable or reusable. Notably, the production team is composed entirely of women, many re-entering the workforce after years of caregiving or societal barriers, turning sustainability into a powerful vehicle for social empowerment.
From Local Kitchens to a Nationwide Consciousness!
What began in Sahar’s kitchen has now grown into a brand that inspires individuals and families across India to live more mindfully. The brand also runs educational workshops and zero-waste courses, building a community that believes in progress without pollution. As of today, Bare Necessities has helped divert massive amounts of waste from landfills and saved millions of single-use plastic units from being used altogether.
But beyond numbers, it has succeeded in shifting mindsets, proving that convenience doesn’t have to come at the cost of the planet. On this World Plastic Free Day, the brand’s story serves as both a celebration and a call to action: to live with purpose, purchase with intention, and embrace a life that leaves no waste behind.
