The Uttar Pradesh government is making waves with plans to introduce thrilling water adventure activities in Ayodhya and Varanasi, alongside the launch of eco-friendly, electricity-powered boats. As part of this exciting initiative, four specialized electric boats will be deployed in both cities during the first phase. In Ayodhya, an air-conditioned electric boat with a 50-seat capacity, along with two 30-seater electric boats, will soon set sail from Nayaghat on the Saryu River.
Meanwhile, in Varanasi, a 50-seater air-conditioned electric boat will offer tourists a unique way to explore the Ganga River at Ravidas Ghat. These state-of-the-art vessels are designed with eco-conscious materials: non-air-conditioned boats will feature a durable FRP catamaran hull, while the luxurious air-conditioned versions will boast a sleek steel catamaran hull. Get ready for a whole new experience on the waters of these historic cities!
The Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation will oversee operations of the ghats, which will include facilities for mooring and charging these boats. The boats will be initially rented for a decade, and their leasing will adhere to international norms, the Inland Vessel Act, and the Tourism Department's requirements.
The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India will set the rules for boat operations. In the meantime, five projects totaling Rs 73 crore for Uttar Pradesh were approved by the National Mission for Clean Ganga during its 56th executive committee meeting, which was held in New Delhi, according to an official statement on August 31. The conference was presided over by Rajeev Kumar Mital, Director General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
"The approved projects are pivotal to the improvement of the river's ecosystem as these ensure minimised level of pollution in Ganga, thereby maintaining its cleanliness and ensuring its conservation," the statement said. The 'Establishment of Secretariat for Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) at Varanasi' project, which was proposed and overseen by IIT (BHU) under the NMCG's direction, was accepted by the committee, it was reported.

This would be done by utilizing worldwide experience and sustainable techniques. It claimed that it achieves this by striking the proper balance between the economy, the environment, and society at large. As part of the Namami Gange Mission to lessen the pollution of the river, another project on "Faecal Sludge Management for Abatement of Pollution of River Ganga at Dalmau, Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh" was approved, according to the release. This project will create a 15 KW solar power plant, one solar inverter, and an eight KLD faecal sludge treatment plant. The announcement stated that the sewerage project in Gulaothi, Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, that aims to clean the Ganga river has received official approval to be implemented. According to the statement, the project's goal is to stop pollution in the East Kali River, a tributary of the Ganga that passes through eight districts in Uttar Pradesh.
The Executive Committee has also accepted the project titled "Restoration Plan of Lower Order Streams and Tributaries in the Upper Gomti River Basin through Nature-Based Solutions (NBS)". The initiative, which was put out by the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Central University in Lucknow, focuses on using NBS to revitalize lower-order streams and tributaries in the upper Gomti River Basin. At an estimated cost of Rs 81.09 lakh, this project is extremely important because, as it was mentioned, little streams and rivers are essential to the environment and water flow of larger rivers.
