We appease by acting in ways we believe others would appreciate and telling them what they want to hear. We go against our nature to impress or be accepted by those around us. In a nutshell, we live inauthentically. This can be exhausting. Worse, it confines who we truly are and prevents us from reaching our full potential. Being honest with ourselves is the antidote. Living genuinely entails charting your course and living your life according to your values, not those of others. However, this can be more difficult than it appears. It may push you to deviate from the norm, be unconventional, or expose yourself to criticism or mockery.
Unlocking Your Tool:
To begin, identify the gaps between who you are now and who you know you can be.
To be authentic, you must also live with integrity. This requires bravery, but it might make you feel better about yourself.
Being authentic requires open and honest communication. This entails being truthful, but not brutally so.
Speak your mind, but always keep other people's sentiments in mind. It is critical to let people's actions speak for themselves.
Don't let your assumptions drive you, and don't take people's comments at face value. Character strength is a "must" for an honest life, therefore boosting your self-esteem.
Finally, learn to manage your emotions.
At last, being authentic to yourself lets you tap into your untapped potential
