Here’s some good news for those facing water crisis in Kozhikode. Trying to put an end to the water woes in the state, Kozhikode will have its first artificial lake, which will be one of its kind to help tackle the water problem. Being made in Paroppady, this lake will be a sustainable solution to the water woes. Fifty acres of unused paddy fields is connected to Poonoor river through a canal. This will be turned into a freshwater lake. The survey to measure the width and borders will start soon for this proposed project.
The initial financial requirement for this project is Rs 20 crore and the state government is all set to invest the amount.
The idea of this artificial lake incepted by A Pradeep Kumar, Kozhikode North MLA, he has planned to bring 30 individuals together for this project. These 65 individuals own 65 acres of fallow land in Paroppady- Kannadikkal region where the project is will be started.
With the growing urbanization, a manmade freshwater lake is believed to be one of the best alternatives to solve water woes. Every monsoon the water flows from river Kannadikkal via canal to a paddy field. Therefore the flow of water is sufficient during monsoon that meets the water needs of the residents.
