In a remarkable display of passion and determination, B Anuradha, an Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to the Central Crime Station in Visakhapatnam, has achieved outstanding success in athletics after the age of 50. Can women truly excel in athletics even after crossing that age milestone?
Anuradha recently participated in the Sanyukta Bhartiya Khel Foundation’s (SBKF) 9th National Games held in Dharamshala and emerged victorious in the 50+ age category. She secured a gold medal in powerlifting and discus throw, a silver medal in javelin throw, and a bronze medal in shot put. Her remarkable achievements not only highlight her dedication but also exemplify the immense potential of women to excel in diverse fields, even later in life.
Having joined the police department in 1992 as a constable, Anuradha actively participated in athletics and sports throughout her career. She competed in several national powerlifting championships and even achieved a karate black belt. Despite taking a break from sports for 18 years due to motherhood and work responsibilities, Anuradha decided to rekindle her sports journey a few months ago, encouraged by her seniors with whom she had previously participated in national events.
Anuradha's success at the SBKF 9th National Games has earned her a well-deserved spot in an upcoming international competition scheduled for February. Reflecting on her experience, she emphasized the importance of not abandoning one's strengths in the face of everyday struggles, as these strengths not only motivate individuals but also inspire others.
Anuradha's ultimate goal is to bring honor to the police department through her athletic achievements and fulfill her purpose as both a police officer and an athlete. She believes her pursuits can serve as an inspiration for others, encouraging them to explore new interests and recognize their passions.
