It was the first visit by an Indian premier to Israel and to commemorate this occasion, a new fast-growing Israeli flower was on Tuesday named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The officials in Tel Aviv said that the Israeli Chrysanthemum flower will now be called "MODI” and that it symbolizes a growing partnership between the two countries.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted "A symbol of blooming in a special gesture, a new fast growing variety of chrysanthemum flower named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
Earlier, Modi along with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu had visited the Danziger "Dan" Flower Farm where they were updated about the latest technologies being used for floriculture.
The Danziger flower farm, founded in 1953 has approximately 80,000 square meters of state-of-the-art greenhouses that study and specializes in the reproduction of plants.It is located in Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, 56 km from Jerusalem in central Israel.
Modi was given a warm welcome by Netanyahu along with the top tier of Israel's leadership -- known as segel aleph -- an honour rendered to only a few select leaders like US presidents and popes.
